Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Bakersfield .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Bakersfield Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

Jesse is extremely knowledgeable. He was patient with 3 new beginners and different cameras, shared insights on camera settings and shot set-up ideas. I definitely got enough info to start taking shots and experimenting until the next class.

This was my second excursion onto the downtown streets in Jesse's class. The lessons were even more insightful this time. I especially liked that he gave each of us personal time and reviewed and commented on our photo taking results.

I was out hiking in the hills south of town with my camera looking for wildlife. I found a number of lizards, birds and a few rabbits. While hiking, I heard the rumble of jet engines, so I looked up and saw a pair of fighter jets flying in formation in the distance headed my direction. The grey jet is an EA-18G Growler and the blue jet is a F/A-18 Super Hornet. I took this photo with my Canon EOS R5 camera body and Canon RF 100-500mm lens.

Downtown Bakersfield, CaI took this picture last November. I like to photograph downtown during golden hour and at night. I love the way the light spills out of the Ovation and I was so happy to see they had an event going on. I'm sure it looked real sketchy, but I got between two cars and composed my shot and just waited until the right person completed the scene.

My wife and I were taking a little cruise along the beach and I noticed this strip of wet sand left over from the high tide. It caught my eye and I followed the wet strip along until I caught some buildings that seemed to work and snapped the shot!

This was taken in February at McWay Falls, on my first drive back up Highway 1 after it had been closed for nearly three years. The road reopening felt like a reason to go. I had just started shooting film, still figuring it out, but that uncertainty made the moment feel more intentional. I shot this on a Nikon F3 with Portra 400.

On a January afternoon in 2025, I decided to head out for a drive in search of subjects worthy of photographing somewhere. It had started out as a sunny day, but early in the afternoon clouds started rolling in. I thought it would be a perfect day to photograph on the Carrizo Plain with clouds to bring contrast to the landscape, so I decided to head that way. By the time I got on the road later in the afternoon, the clouds took over most of the sky, which was a very welcome sight in my eyes. Ho

Taken Sept 14, 2015. Taken with Leica M240 with Leica Tri Elmar 16-18-21 lens. Handheld. I was working at that time for an apple packer when the clouds showed some signs of "burning". I grabbed my camera and walked to the back of the company property and walked up the dirt mound to take this photo. Processed using Capture One Pro.

I was soaking in the sun on a beautiful day with my camera and zoom lens when i spotted the dragon fly on the antenna of a car parked car close to my apartment. The vivid colors and the beauty of the moment was no lost on me and i immediately zoomed in with my Tamron 70-300mm lens. I was glad the dragonfly was in no hurry to fly away. I was all smiles when i looked at the end result. The bokeh effect and beauty of the dragonfly. My camera settings were SON
